What is Feed Diet?

Feed Diet is a Chrome extension that filters your YouTube and X feeds by a rule you write in your own words. Feed Diet blurs or hides the videos and posts that break the rule, before you see them.

How does Feed Diet decide what to hide?

Feed Diet reads each card, a video’s title and channel or a post’s text and author, and checks it against your rule. The Feed Diet server sends that short description and your rule to a classifier, TypeSafe AI, and keeps no copy.

What is a rule, and what can I write?

A Feed Diet rule is one or two sentences, in your own words, about what you want to see. Say it the way you would say it to a friend, for example: “Only programming tutorials and conference talks.”

Rewrite your rule whenever your taste changes. The feed follows the new rule at once.

Can a rule have exceptions?

Yes. A Feed Diet rule can have exceptions and “only”, in plain words, such as “No politics, except the history of old elections.” A keyword list can’t do this, because a video about an old election and one about this week’s vote use the same words.

Blur or Hide: what is the difference?

Blur covers a video or post that breaks your Feed Diet rule with frosted glass, and one click shows it. Hide removes it from the feed. You choose Blur or Hide in the Feed Diet side panel.

Does Feed Diet filter comments or notifications?

No. Feed Diet filters YouTube videos and Shorts, and the posts on your X timeline. Feed Diet does not touch YouTube comments or X notifications.

Can parents use Feed Diet for kids?

Yes. A parent can write a Feed Diet rule that keeps a child’s feed full of things worth watching, and lock it with a password. For example: “No brain rot, pranks, or scary videos. Science, drawing, and Minecraft builds are fine.”

Can I lock Feed Diet’s settings with a password?

Yes. In the Feed Diet side panel, set a password under Lock settings. While locked, nobody can change the rules, the on/off switches, or Blur and Hide without the password.

If you forget the password, remove and reinstall Feed Diet. Your rules will be reset.

Where does Feed Diet work on YouTube?

On YouTube, Feed Diet works on the home feed, search results, the watch-page sidebar, and Shorts. Feed Diet also covers a video or Short you open from a direct link.

Can Feed Diet hide YouTube Shorts?

Yes. With the Feed Diet rule “No Shorts.”, Shorts cards are hidden or blurred in the YouTube home feed, search results, and the sidebar next to a video. To keep some, add an exception: “No Shorts, except cooking.”

Does Feed Diet block a video I open from a direct link?

Yes. When you open a YouTube video or Short from a direct link and it breaks your rule, Feed Diet covers it.

Does Feed Diet work on X (Twitter)?

Yes. Feed Diet filters the posts on your X timeline by your rule and blurs or hides the ones that break it. Feed Diet does not filter X notifications.

Can I use a different rule for YouTube and X?

Yes. Feed Diet keeps a separate rule for YouTube and for X, each on its own tab of the side panel.

Does Feed Diet work in the YouTube or X phone apps?

No. Feed Diet is a Chrome extension, so it works in Chrome on a computer, not in the YouTube or X phone apps.

Does Feed Diet work in Firefox or Safari?

No. Feed Diet runs in Chrome only.

What data does Feed Diet send, and what does it store?

Feed Diet sends a video’s title, channel, and details line, or a post’s text and author, with your rule, to be judged, and stores none of it. Feed Diet stores your email, your plan, and a usage count, or on the free trial a random install id with a daily count and the time of its first use.

Feed Diet builds no profile, sells nothing, and runs no ads. The extension runs no analytics and never reads your direct messages. This website uses Google Analytics to count visits. The privacy policy has the full list.

Does Feed Diet need an account?

Not at first. The first 3 days of Feed Diet’s 7-day free trial need no account and no card, and run on a random install id. To use days 4 to 7, sign up free with your email. You also sign in when you subscribe to Pro.

Is Feed Diet free, and what does Pro cost?

Feed Diet has a 7-day free trial, with no card, and no account needed for the first 3 days. After that, Feed Diet Pro is $5 a month or $50 a year, for 100,000 posts and videos a month.

What counts as one post or video?

On Pro, each post or video Feed Diet judges against your rule counts as one. Items Feed Diet has already judged come from a local cache and do not count again. The free trial runs on days, not counts.

A busy day of scrolling is a few hundred.

What happens after the 7-day free trial?

After the 7-day free trial, Feed Diet stops filtering and your feeds go back to normal. Nothing breaks. Subscribe from the extension to keep going.

How do I upgrade to Feed Diet Pro?

Open the Feed Diet extension and click Subscribe. Sign in with your email and pick a plan.

Can I cancel Feed Diet Pro?

Yes. Cancel Feed Diet Pro any time from your account page. Uninstall Feed Diet and your feeds are back to normal.

How is Feed Diet different from BlockTube?

BlockTube removes YouTube videos, channels, and comments that match your keyword or regex lists, in your browser, for free. Feed Diet blurs or hides YouTube videos and X posts that break one rule in your own words, judged on the Feed Diet server.
