A BlockTube alternative that understands plain words

Feed Diet is a BlockTube alternative for people who would rather write one sentence than keep a list. BlockTube removes YouTube videos that match your keywords or regex. Feed Diet blurs or hides the YouTube videos and X posts that break one rule you write in your own words.

What does BlockTube do?

BlockTube is a free, open-source extension (GPLv3) that removes YouTube videos, channels, and comments that match lists you write. You block videos by title, channel name, channel ID, or video ID, with keywords or raw regular expressions (regex).

  • Videos, by title, channel name, channel ID, or video ID.
  • Whole channels.
  • Comments, by user or by content.
  • The Trending section.

You can also block things from YouTube’s right-click menus. BlockTube filters before the page renders, so blocked videos are removed entirely. There is no blur. You can protect its options with a password. It works in Chrome and Firefox, and on m.youtube.com in Firefox for Android and Kiwi.

How is Feed Diet different from BlockTube?

Feed Diet uses one rule in your own words instead of keyword lists or regex, and the rule can have exceptions. Feed Diet reads each video card and decides if it breaks your rule, so it can keep a video about an old election and remove one about this week’s vote.

No politics, except the history of old elections.

A keyword list can’t tell those two videos apart, because they use the same words.

  • No keyword lists and no regex. Change the sentence, and the feed follows it at once.
  • Blur or Hide. Blur covers a video, and one click shows it. Hide removes it.
  • YouTube and X. On YouTube it works on the home feed, search results, the watch-page sidebar, Shorts, and a video or Short you open from a link. On X it works on your timeline, where it catches what muted words miss. Each site has its own rule.

How do BlockTube and Feed Diet compare?

BlockTube is free and filters in your browser with exact lists. Feed Diet filters with a plain-words rule, judged on the Feed Diet server, and works on YouTube and X. The table compares them side by side.

When is BlockTube the better choice?

BlockTube is the better choice if you want exact keyword or regex control, filtering that stays in your browser, comment blocking, Firefox, or a tool that is free forever. Feed Diet offers none of these five things.

  • Exact control. You want a keyword or a regex to match exactly what you typed, every time.
  • Local filtering. You want nothing about your feed to leave your browser.
  • Comments. You want to block comments by user or by content. Feed Diet does not touch comments.
  • Firefox. Feed Diet runs in Chrome only.
  • Free forever. BlockTube costs nothing. Feed Diet has a 7-day free trial, then it is paid.

When is Feed Diet the better choice?

Feed Diet is the better choice if you think in topics rather than keywords (“no brain rot”), need exceptions, want the same kind of rule on your X timeline, or would rather blur than remove.

  • Topics, not keywords: “no crypto”, “only cooking and woodworking”.
  • Exceptions: “no reaction videos, unless the reactor is a working musician”.
  • Blur, so you can still peek.

Questions

Can I use BlockTube and Feed Diet together?

Yes. BlockTube and Feed Diet are separate extensions with separate settings, so you can run both. Some people keep a BlockTube list for channels they never want to see, and a Feed Diet rule for topics.

Do I need an account for Feed Diet?

Not at first. The first 3 days of Feed Diet’s 7-day free trial need no account and no card. To use the rest of the trial, sign up free with your email.

What does Feed Diet send to its server?

For a YouTube video, Feed Diet sends the title, the channel name, and the details line on the card, such as views and age. For a post on X, it sends the text and author, plus short details such as its links or a quoted post. It also sends your rule, and stores none of it.

The privacy policy has the full list.

Does Feed Diet block comments or channels?

Feed Diet does not filter comments. It judges videos and posts against your rule, and you can name a channel in the rule, because the channel name is part of what Feed Diet reads.

Try one rule on your feed.
